"Traditions of the Akha tell of the legendary descent of the entire people from seven brothers in Yunnan, China.   Also known as Kaw, or Ko, the more than 100,000 Akhas live in adjoining areas of China, Laos, Burma (40,000), and Thailand (25,000).   The Akha language is a Tibeto-Burman tongue, related to Lisu.
