OVERCOMING STAGE FRIGHT WHEN PREACHING

#1 STAGE FRIGHT COMES FROM SELF-CONCERN

E.G. HOW DO I LOOK, WILL I BE A BLESSING
HOW DO I SOUND, WILL GOD USE ME.

WE HAVE A MENTAL PICTURE OF HOW THE SERMON
SHOULD TURN OUT BUT WE ARE CONCERNED
ABOUT WHETHER IT WILL GO OFF THAT WAY.

ALL THIS SELF-CONCERN RESULTS IN FEAR.

#2 BIBLE SOLUTION TO FEAR IS LOVE
PERFECT LOVE CASTETH OUT FEAR   I JOHN 4:18

LOVE AND FEAR ARE OPPOSITES.

E.G. LOVE SAYS "WHAT CAN I DO FOR THEM"
FEAR SAYS "WHAT WILL THEY DO TO ME"

LOVE REACHES OUT TOWARD OTHERS
FEAR DRAWS IN TOWARD SELF.

#3 GOAL IS TO CAST OUT YOUR FEAR
     WITH LOVE FOR THE AUDIENCE.

E.G. A WOMAN WHO IS AFRAID OF A MOUSE
WILL CONFRONT A WILD ANIMAL TO
        SAVE HER CHILD.

HER LOVE FOR CHILD CASTETH OUT FEAR.

THEREFORE BEFORE PREACHING.

PRAY THAT GOD GIVES YOU A LOVING BURDEN
FOR THE AUDIENCE'S SPIRITUAL NEEDS

APPROACH PULPIT WITH FOCUS OR CONCERN
FOR THEM AND NOT SELF (I COR. 2:1-4; PHIL. 2:23-24?)

I.E.   APPROACH PULPIT WITH FOLLOWING ATTITUDE:

"I HAVE A MESSAGE THAT HAS GRIPPED ME TO
THE POINT THAT I MUST PASS IT ON TO THE
AUDIENCE FOR THEIR SPIRITUAL WELL-BEING.
MY CONCERN THAT THEY RECEIVE A BLESSING
IS SO GREAT, I MUST PREACH IT NO MATTER
HOW FOOLISH I LOOK OR SOUND."
  (I COR. 4:10)
