"The Gothic version is supposed to have been made by
Ulfilas
who died in 381 (or 383). His translation included the whole
Bible "with the exception of the Books of Kings which he omitted
because they are a...." The extant manu-
scripts of the fifth or sixth centuries, notably the famous Codex
Argenteus, at Upsala, and the Codices Carolinus, Ambrosiani,
Vaticanus, Vindobonesis and Turinensis, preserve
small bits of
the Old Testament and the Gospels and Pauline Epistles. In
text it seems to be related to the Old Latin version. It is of great
interest to philologists as preserving what is by several centuries
