INDONESIAN BIBLE
TRANSLATION PROJECT

   The purpose of this project is to formally/
verbally translate the Bible into the Bahasa
Indonesia language.   There are well over 230
million people that speak Bahasa Indonesia,
so the need is extremely great.   The project has
been divided into three main sub-projects: (1)
prepare; (2) translate the New Testament; and
(3) translate the Old Testament.   Preparation is
finished except for fundraising, and we have

begun translating the New Testament.   Our
goal is to translate the entire New Testament
as soon as possible.   However, we intend to
take the time necessary to translate correctly.
Miles Smith, speaking for his fellow transla-
tors of the KJV of 1611 said that they did not
"disdain to revise that which we had done,
and to bring back to the anvil that which (we)
had hammered; but having and using as great
helps as were needful, and fearing no re-
proach for slowness, nor caviling praise for
expedition, we have at length, through the
good hand of the Lord upon us, brought the
work to pass that you see."   By God's grace, we
shall endeavor to be equally careful, but also
to be diligent to finish the project as rapidly as
possible, seeing the urgent need.

The Seriousness of the Task

   Who was talking from the beginning of the
following verses right up to the word
"Amen[?]"
   "I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto
you these things in the churches.   I am the root
and the offspring of David, and the bright and
morning star.   And the Spirit and the bride say,
Come.   And let him that heareth say, Come.   And
let him that is athirst come.   And whosoever
will, let him take the water of life freely.   For I
testify unto every man that heareth the words of
the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add
unto these things, God shall add unto him the
plagues that are written in this book: And if any
man shall take away from the words of the book
of this prophecy, God shall take away his part
out of the book of life, and out of the holy city,
and from the things which are written in this
book.   He which testifieth these things saith,
Surely I come quickly.   Amen.   Even so, come,
Lord Jesus."   Rev. 22:16-20.

   Obviously, it was Jesus who was talking in
the above verses.   These are the last recorded
words of the Lord Jesus Christ---God the Son.
First words and last words are always exceed-
ingly important.   Since the Bible shows us the
way of salvation, to change its words could
have eternally catastrophic consequences upon
its readers---even sending them to eternal pun-
ishment in Hell.   So God warns us: Don't add
words to this book and don't take words away
from it, for if you do you will, yourself, end up
in the lake of fire, forever excluded from
Heaven.   And note that it is God Himself who
will see to it that the Bible changer receives
these horrible punishments.
   Now if some mere man said these words we
might laugh them off, but these are the words
of the Lord God, Himself.   These words must be
taken very seriously.   When copying the text of
the original manuscripts, don't make changes.
When translating this text, just translate; don't
make changes; don't subtract or add words.   Be
very careful to accurately translate, for people's
souls are at stake.
   The Indonesian Bible Society (Lembaga
Alkitab Indonesia) in their Bahsas Indonesia
Sehari-hari translation have added one word to
Rev. 22:18, so that the words of Christ "For I
testify..." become instead "I, John, testify..."   By
the addition of only one word they make God's
words of warning become instead the words of
a mere man, and thus not so severe.   In their
Terjemahan Baru translation John's name was
not added, so they surely know that his name is
not in the original Greek text.   In fact, his name
is not even found in the corrupt United Bible
Societies text from which they supposedly
translate.   And this is just one of many hundreds
of changes they have made to God's word in
their translations.   Woe be unto them!

Source Text

   We are translating from the Scrivener edition
of the Textus Receptus Greek New Testament
as published by the Trinitarian Bible Society.
We chose the Textus Receptus (from which the
King James Version of 1611 was also trans-
lated) as our source text because: (1) it is the
original New Testament text; (2) it has not been
corrupted (subtracted from, added to, changed)
as has the Nestle/Aland text (of the United Bi-
ble Societies) which is a composite of all the
errors found in Codex Vaticanus, Codex Si-
naiticus, and a few other obviously corrupted
manuscripts; (3) the Textus Receptus is the text
preserved by God, and historically used by
Christ's churches for close to 2,000 years; and
(4) of the 5,255 extant manuscripts only 45
(less than 1%) agree (and even then not per-
fectly) within the Nestle/Aland or Westscott &
Hort text--the remaining 5,210 manuscripts
contain the Textus Receptus text.   We reject the
idea, promoted by the United Bible Societies
translators, that the word of God was lost for
many hundreds of years until men in their un-
believing camp found part of it in the late
1800's, and are now looking for the rest of it,
and that therefore they have license to include
new changes every time they find a manuscript
containing a few more corruptions.

The Scriptures are inspired of God,
and therefore without error

   "All scripture is given by inspiration of God,
and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly
furnished unto all good works."   2 Tim. 3:16
-17

   "We have also a more sure word of prophecy;
whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto
a light that shineth in a dark place, until the

day dawn, and the day star arise in your
hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of
the scripture is of any private interpretation.
For the prophecy came not in old time by the
will of man: but holy men of God spake as they
were moved by the Holy Ghost."   2 Pet. 1:19-21

The Scriptures are preserved by God,
and therefore have always been in exis-
tence from their writing unto this day

   "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my
words shall not pass away."   Matthew 24:35

   "Seeing ye have purified your souls in obey-
ing the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned
love of the brethren, see that ye love one an-
other with a pure heart fervently: Being born
again, not of corruptible seed, but of incor-
ruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and
abideth for ever.   For all flesh is as grass, and
all the glory of man as the flower of grass.   The
grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth
away: But the word of the Lord endureth for
ever.   And this is the word which by the gospel
is preached unto you."   1 Pet. 1:22- 25

   "The words of the LORD are pure words: as
silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven
times.   Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou
shalt preserve them from this generation for
ever."   Psalms 12:6-7

Translation Method

   We are using the formal/verbal translation
method, in which: (1) the translator endeavors
to find and use a word in the target language
that conveys the exact meaning as the word in
the source language; (2) always nouns are
translated as nouns, verbs as verbs, adjectives
as adjectives, etc., if at all possible; and (3)
God's words are considered important, and are
truly translated, not changed.   We reject the so-

called "Dynamic Equivalence" method used by
the United Bible Societies and her affiliates
(including the Lembaga Alkitab Indonesia), in
which the words and their meanings are
changed at the will of the translator.   The Dy-
namic Equivalence translation method is an
even greater sin than using the wrong text, for
it is intentional and dishonest mis-translation of
God's words.
   "And account that the longsuffering of our
Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother
Paul also according to the wisdom given unto
him hath written unto you; As also in all his
epistles, speaking in them of these things; in
which are some things hard to be understood,
which they that are unlearned and unstable
wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto
their own destruction.   Ye therefore, beloved,
seeing ye know these things before, beware lest
ye also, being led away with the error of the
wicked, fall from your own stedfastness."   2
Pet. 3:15-17

   As an aid to speed up the translating progress,
we have created software to make an Interlinear
Greek-Indonesian-English New Testament as
we complete word studies.   Each Greek word is

carefully studied using all the Lexicons and
other study aids at our disposal.   Then its
proper translation is determined using numer-
ous Indonesian dictionaries and using the Inter-
net to see how the word is being used daily in
ordinary Indonesian speech.   Only then are en-
tries made in the Greek-Indonesian-English
Interlinear.

Interesting Facts About the
Textus Receptus

   In processing the file of the Textus Receptus
in preparation for making an interlinear and
(eventually) a concordance, some interesting
facts came to light.

Number of Punctuation Marks

   There are 15,408 commas; 5,844 periods;
3,476 colons; and 978 semi-colons.   Since the
semi-colon is the Greek question mark, that
means there are 978 questions asked in the
Textux Receptus New Testament text.

Longest and Shortest Words

   The shortest words are the one letter words
"a, d, h, o, and w," and the longest word at 20
letters long is "prokeceirotonhmenoij."   Only 20
letters long and you can't spell it?   Fortunately
prokeceirotonhmenoij only appears once in the
New Testament (in Acts 10:41); prokeceiro-
tonhmenoij means "chosen before[.]"

Total Number of Words
and Unique Words

   There are 141,722 words in the Textus Re-
ceptus.   Remove the duplicates and there are
17,605 unique Greek words in the Textus Re-
ceptus.   Unique means that each different word
is counted only once.   For example, "de" is one
unique word even though it occurs 2,855 times
in the Textus Receptus.
