With faith as their foundation, a
young Fargo couple are starting a new
church in Valley City.
Pastor Mike and Tracy Paulson will
hold their first service in the Calvary
Baptist Church Sunday, Jan. 13.
Described as an independent Baptist
denomination, the church is an out-
growth from Fargo Baptist Church,
which also "started from scratch,"
according to Mike Paulson.
Taking a break from the interior
remoldeling to the building that until
last fall housed the Nodak Appliance
building at the west end of Valley City's
Main Ave., the Paulsons talked about

their dream.
   The Fargo church has experienced
growth since its start by Pastor Tony
Scheving 15 years ago, with a present
congregation of around 300 and now in
their third building project.   With a
planned seating capacity of 1,100, the
church has faith in the future, some-
thing shared by the Paulsons.
   Mike Paulson, a South Dakota
native, was working at Case-Concord
in Fargo, when he felt called into min-
istry.   He attended the Dakota
Baptist Bible Institute, where he completed
his ministry training in 1998.   Since
then, he has served in a lay capacity in
the Fargo church.
From there, he began to search for a
place to start another church.   Valley
City seemed like the one.
   Tracy said, coincidently, that they
used to drive up to Valley City from
Fargo, just for a peaceful family day.
They would visit the city park, or Lake
Ashtabula.   The couple has two daugh-
ters, Hannah, 7, and Sarah, 5.   They are
now making their home here.

"We will be an extension (of the
Fargo church) until we are big enough
to support ourselves,"
Paulson said.
"We're independent in the sense that
each individual church is slightly dif-
rent."

But one thing remains the same: they
stick with the Scriptures.   "We want to
let people know, that every doctrine
should be found in the Bible."
  And that
the "new birth" should be a "dramatic
change that makes a person totally dif-
rerent."

"There aren't a lot of churches teach-
ing that,"
he says.
   "And the teaching is practical,"
Tracy added.   "Marriage, family,
finances, all are found in the Bible."

The focus, Mike says, is to "make
sure people know what the Bible says
about going to Heaven, to be born again,
repent and believe in the Gospel."

The public is invited to their first
service Sunday at 10:30 a.m., at 2030
Main Ave., Valley City.   For more infor-
mation, call the church at 845-9220.
