   "PREACHERS NEED DISCERNMENT"

I Kings 3:9 really is a mouthful.   With all the
diversity of problems, people & situations one needs God-
given discernment.   This is especially true in a
preacher's life.   Solomon was humble & realized
the new found responsibility he had as king.   God
just wanted Solomon to ask for discernment.
The Book of James has the same principle: If we
lack wisdom ... let's ask God for it.

Because the church is God's flock, the Pastor & his
staff need God's words & thoughts to oversee properly.
The work of the ministry requires dependency
on God.   (He can supply all our needs.)
The Lord can supply the power to do the
work.   Solomon believed that if he didn't
possess enough discernment he was doomed
to fail.   Spiritual leaders must be able
to discern both good & evil.   If they can't
see well they won't be able to detect danger
& protect their people.   A shepherd must
be able to discern if a thing doesn't sound
right, look right or feel right.   We need
to exercise discernment in 4 places: men,
ministries, music & messages.   Our exercises
must be accomplished thru prayer, Bible study
meditation & godly conversation.
